Gift Company Magento Website Redesign
Context
Gift Company were long-standing integrated customers whose existing website had become dated, cluttered, and hard to use on mobile. They wanted something cleaner that matched their rebrand and gave them more flexibility with SEO. Our upgrade path was Magento, and I delivered the full frontend build myself, working closely with their external SEO team.

The Problem
- Brand colour orange clashed with white backgrounds, creating poor accessibility
- Search was hidden behind an icon, making discovery harder
- Homepage lacked structure and focus
- Store finder relied on Google Maps API, adding cost and complexity
- Reviews were not visible on site, missing an opportunity for trust
- Icons and UI were inconsistent

The Solution
- Recommended dropping the orange in favour of the rebrand palette, improving accessibility and readability
- Exposed search bar across all devices to encourage faster product discovery
- Introduced homepage product carousels (New In, Bestsellers) for structure and clarity
- Built a review carousel pulling in Google and Facebook reviews without the cost of Trustpilot’s widget
- Rebuilt the store finder to remove dependency on Google Maps API
- Refined icons and UI for consistency
- Delivered the build mobile-first, ensuring smooth performance across devices
- Demoed Magento Pagebuilder and trained the team so they could manage content themselves

The Outcome
- Modern, mobile-first website aligned with their rebrand
- More accessible colour palette and simplified UI
- Faster product discovery with exposed search and homepage carousels
- Reviews surfaced in a cost-effective way to build trust
- Client enabled to manage their own content via Magento Pagebuilder
- Delivered on time to meet a tight deadline as sole frontend developer
Reflection
This was my first full Magento frontend build completed solo. Balancing design improvements with business goals was key: reducing costs with the review carousel, ensuring SEO readiness, and training the client to be independent with Pagebuilder. If revisiting, I would improve keyboard navigation and focus states to push accessibility further.
